Toe blisters at the TransRockies were a huge problem. We saw many of the same runners day after day during the six-day race. One lady kept coming in every day after her run. Quite some time ago I wrote about the "Little Toe Triangle." Working recently at Badwater, I was reminded again about this little appendage. A runner had completed the grueling 135-mile Badwater race through Death Valley and had come into the medical room for foot care. He really had pretty good feet. This was a good week. Badwater in Death Valley always is. Fit runners, great crews, fantastic scenery through the harsh reality of Death Valley - and for me, lots of feet needing care. I have made an observation when taping feet and seeing athletes' injured feet - and this affects the way I tape. I like smooth. It reduces friction. Some tapes are smoother than others. Duct tape is smooth but does not breathe or conform to the curves of the foot. Elastikon is coarse as well as thick. Kinesio Tex, Leukotape and Endurotape are smooth.
