Last week I flew to Tampa for a conference and then home again a few days later. Coast to coast, twice. Sitting in coach for three and four hours at a time makes you appreciate getting up to stretch. Sitting there I found it refreshing to loosen my shoelaces and every so often, even take my shoes off.
When you are stuck on a plane, sitting at your desk for hours, or just need to move around, I suggest the following toe and foot stretches:
1. Stretch your toes side to side, curl them in and out, and wiggle them around.
2. Rotate your feet at your ankle, up and down and side to side.
3. Write the alphabet with your toes, using your whole foot.
Keep the blood flowing by alternating relaxing and flexing your toes and feet. Remember to move your legs at the knee too. Get up and take a short walk when possible. If nothing else, while standing, rise up onto your toes and then back on your heels. A few short stretches will help relieve the boredom and discomfort of long periods of sitting.
